Tanker Inferno

At about 1:45 AM this morning, a tanker carrying about 9000 gallons of gasoline took the turn off of the rotary too sharply, and tipped over the enbankment, leaking gasoline everywhere. The ensuing explosion created an inferno in the area, which damaged at least 2 three-decker homes and 40 cars. At least 200 residents have been evacuated, many of whom are now at the Armory. An elder complex in the area has also been evaculated for safety sake, and some residents treated for smoke inhalation. The driver of the tanker escaped with minor injuries and no other injuries have been reported.

We extend deep and sincere appreciation to the Everett Fire Department, under the supervision of Chief David Butler, who were able to contain the fire to the immediate area. This fire could have been so much worse than it was, particularly given the density of housing and parking in the area. It's amazing that no one was killed or seriously injured. Hats off to all of Everett's responders.
