Give It A Rest...

For the most part, we allow people to write just about anything that can't be considered libelous, but we're going to have to ask for some civility here. Posting over and over again about the candidates' perceived "flaws" beyond their public obligation to the community is not only getting old, but it inspires others to respond in kind. Unless you have documents, etc. that we can upload for you under your name - we simply can't allow the daily donneybrook to go on.

City elections are never tension free, because at the end of election day, there's only one candidate that can win; but the continual spleen venting doesn't help either candidate. Let's try to focus on the issues and toot your particular candidate's horn without hanging the dirty laundry.

All that aside, we may need to resort to a log-in process if things don't improve.

It's McGonage & DeMaria in November!

The results of the preliminary election are in; Ward 6 Alderman Joe McGonagle and Alderman at Large Carlo DeMaria will face off in November to become the next Mayor of Everett. In what may very well be a first in Everett politics, a mayoral incumbent has been defeated in a preliminary election.

The next two months will be crucial to both candidates as they get their respective messages out. We believe the tax issue in 2005 and yesterday's results tell the same story. It's the taxes. With Everett facing record home foreclosures, and the economy starting to soften...now would be a good time to talk about real plans for Everett's economic future and not just bash each other.

In other Primary news, Wayne Matewsky topped the ticket in the Alderman-at-Large race, with Joanne Gregory placing second. Salvatore Sachetta topped it in the Ward 6 Alderman race, with Catherine Tomassi Hicks coming in second.

Primary Day, Tuesday, September 18, 2007

Tomorrow is Primary Day in the city of Everett. While there are only three primary races in the city - you have every good reason to get to the polls. In your hands is the key to the future of the city...please don't leave the choice up to someone else. All too often a candidate can win by default in a low turnout year. The weather is supposed to be beautiful, so we hope that everyone will participate.

TIME OUT!!!!

Recent postings referencing the personal lives of the mayoral candidates have spiraled out of control. Consequently, they have all been deleted.

With everything going on in this city, there are better topics of discussion than the personal lives and alleged personal behaviors of any candidates. We are asking that posters respect the fact that the candidates' personal lives are not the issue in this election. We've been giving a very wide berth for the commentary being posted, but unfortunately, because of the spate of postings today, that practice will now be narrowed. Any posting referencing the personal lives or alleged personal behavior of ANY candidate or elected official will be removed from the blog and consideration will be given to banning the poster.

Thank you for your cooperation.
